Forest Fire Awareness Raising Activities for Refugees in Mae Hong Son Camp

  COERR Mae Hong Son organized the Forest Fire Prevention in Ban Mae Surin refugee camp which is one of the areas where forest fire often take place, especially in the dry season. This year,   COERR and parties concerned, organized   the forest fire prevention by inviting refugees to make a campaign for fire prevention and make firebreak in an effort to prevent forest fire, if happens, to become under control, or not spreading to the community and housing areas.

These activities were organized on March 25, 2017 with the participation of 110 refugees consisting of 65 female and 45 male.

Refugee camp committee announced the objectives of the Fire Awareness Raising Activity to ensure refugees’ participation in fire prevention and making fire break to control fire and prevent fire spreading

Refugees from different sections volunteer to participate in the activity to make a campaign and to make firebreak to control fire from further damaging their camp

Making Fire Break using tools COERR provided to sweep away dead trees, dried branches and leaves, which are flammable materials, away from the walking path

The volunteer refugees were divided into 2 teams. Both moved along the hillside slope while clearing the walking trail by removing deadwood and undergrowth all through their way

Finishing the campaign and firebreak to prevent fire from causing damage in order to save forest, lives and properties.
